LEATHER BOUND BOOKS

Leather bound 16th century books

These books are bound in a style known as 'flexible binding' which is the most common binding style used up to the 19th century. The sections of paper are sewn on linen cords which are then used to lace the boards on. The book is then covered with goat skin leather that has been dyed with period dyes. The paper is a high quality laid paper with no water marks and the decorative tooling designs are taken from original bindings.

As well as binding plain paper notebooks I can also re-bind facsimile books in a period style so they can be used as part of a living history display or demonstration.
